In 2015, twins Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen were named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for their brand The Row. Their signature minimalistic designs have recently had a lot of press and despite their child actor beginnings, the dynamic duo are proving that they really know fashion.

With fluid and sensual silhouettes reminiscent of early Armani and Jil Sander , mixed with architecturally sharp Japanese inspired Kimono warp jackets and Moroccan skimmer slippers, their Fall 2015 Collection was presented in the austere mid-century confines of the 35th floor of Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram’s Building. A predominately black and white palette, accented with lush chocolate brown leather and sumptuous cashmeres, provided a more formal evolution of the Pre-Fall collection which featured the same structural references but grounded in softer biscuit, navy, and cream tones. The collection was dominated by full cut trousers paired with simple but luxurious flats, bias-cut maxi dresses, origami-like leather utility vests, and robust punch of chunky soft cashmere layering pieces. Though the core of the collection is a pure exercise in minimalism there is definitely warmer more welcoming elements to the Olsen’s seasonal selections which is leading to its cult status amongst celebrities like Cheryl Cole, Jessica Simpson, Anne Hathaway, and Kelly Ripa.

Following their successful Melrose Place opening in Los Angeles, the twins announced earlier this year that they will be opening their New York flagship this fall. Located at 17 East 71st Street, the Upper East Side townhouse meets retail showroom will provide just the residential touch to welcome their bobo-chic clientele.
