Like a cool Mediterranean breeze or the glimmering waters of the Amalfi Coast, Tom Ford’s latest additions to his Neroli Portofino Private Blends Collection are elegantly refreshing and slightly exotic visions of summer. Created in collaboration with perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux (the nose behind Tom Ford’s award-winning Jasmin Rouge) and constructed as a reinvention of a classic Eau de Cologne, Neroli Portifino affirms Mr. Ford’s inspiration with the white softness of blooming Tunisian Neroli, Italian Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, and the subtle but therapeutic blasts of Provencal Rosemary and Lavender. The sophisticated sensuousness of the fragrance is further expressed by the presence of amber deep within the base which adds an unexpected touch of solar-like warmth.
For Summer 2014, Mr. Ford tantalises us with two new fragrances that continue to evoke the bleached and salty sands of the Amalfi Coast with its white washed buildings and thick, back country foliage and herbs. Costa Azzura is an evocative and sensual blend of Italian citrus, lavender, vetiver, and olibanum, all washed with the mood enhancing warmth of toasted ambrette seed. In contrast, Manadrino di Amalfi is a resolutely crisp, effervescent blend of mandarin orange, bergamot, and grapefruit. The tonic-like effect of the citrus is then punctuated with a herbaceous tincture of mint, thyme, and wildflowers. Available September at Selfridges.
