Stepping out of your taxi onto the busy streets of Seminyak you’ll soon find you need to keep your wits about you. Scooters roar by weaving in out of traffic and people, cars beep acknowledgement at one another and locals shout their neighbouring stores.

It’s easy to believe that when you first arrive to Bali that you’ve been transported to a destination very different than what you first imagined. The secret to Bali is to explore. Lose yourself in the never ending winding roads of this truly majestic island. And your best companion for this is a 50Rp (Rupiah) hire scooter.

Bali is a small little island just off Indonesia and is a destination most often frequented by Australians searching for a holiday that’s not only affordable but consists of a summer that lasts 90% throughout the year. Bali is proving to be a holiday hotspot that now more than ever, Europeans are discovering the delights that this magical and enticing island has to offer. Chrissy Teigan and John Legend recently visited Bali with little Luna and sent Instagram into overdrive with their adorable and idyllic family snaps.

For those planning a trip to this picturesque island, here’s Elite’s & Elite’s friends top places to go and activities to do.

Ubud is considered in many ways Bali's cultural heart. Located in the cool mountains, just one hour's drive north of the airport and the resorts of southern Bali, this traditional country town is home of one of Bali's royal families.

Come here for: Yoga retreats, the Monkey Forest, Bridges Bali, Restaurant Locavore and Tegallalang Rice Terrace.

An obvious choice, but you can’t go to Bali and not go to Motel Mexicola.

Go during the day for an amazing mexican feed and check out their awesome interiors, THEN, go at night and the place is transformed –  we don't want to give it all away but let’s just say the night involves dancing on tables, tequila and lots and lots of fun.

Head to Ecco Beach and you’ll find bars, bars, and more bars. Happy hour is almost every hour, so you’re more than likely to get there at happy hour and enjoy 2 for 1 cocktails, which should be music to everyone’s ears. Elite recommends The Captain's Catch. Head left to the next beach and you'll find yourself in the very cool and chilled Canggu. Old Man's Beach is a must after your surf session. It's a very coo little beer garden situated just off the beach and where locals and tourists in the know go for memorable afternoon sessions. While you're in the area pop by The Temple of Enthusiasm by Deus Ex Machina.

And what's a holiday without sampling the delicious foods that beautiful Bali has to offer. These are our four must-tastes (clockwise from top left)

2. Breakfast at Sisterfields in Seminyak
3. Cafe Kim Soo offers the perfect pick me up no matter what time of the day (& their homewares are stunning!)
4. Ask anyone where to go for amazing seafood and they'll reply "Sardine" - book in advance though!

For those with a taste for the luxe things in life we recommend visiting these three beautiful boutiques and discovering a label your friends back home will be lusting over. "Where did you get that?" "It's a piece I picked up on my holiday in Bali...."
